AGRA: A man allegedly traveling on wrong side of the road on a two-wheeler to meet friends for late night get-together, was shot dead in road rage by a
four-wheeler owner in Agra.
The incident took place on Saturday night at around 10.30pm on the service lane of NH-2 close to Waterworks roundabout. Identified as Rahul Agrawal (32) of
Durga Nagar,
Balkeshwar area, the victim was a local businessman having garment store in Subhas market.
After the incident, local traders' community staged protest for immediate arrest of the accused involved in the murder. Immediately after the murder, SSP Agra Babloo Kumar formed several police teams including surveillance, forensic and others to probe the matter. Within 15 hours of murder, police identified the accused as
Rajeev Agrawal, resident of Kamla Nagar, who owns business of white flour.
Speaking to TOI, superintendent of police (city) Agra,
Botre Rohan Pramod said, "The victim was traveling on wrong side of lane on his two-wheeler and possibly brushed along accused’s hatchback, which led to confrontation between two men. The heated argument between two businessmen further led to deadly attack. Rajeev whipped out his licenced pistol and pumped bullet into Rahul Agrawal, who died on spot.”
Senior superintendent of police Agra, Babloo Kumar said, "During probe we scanned various CCTVs footage and found that the accused was in blue hatchback (Maruti Suzuki Baleno). With the help of RTO Agra, nearly 1300 Baleno registered in Agra data was scanned. Finally, we managed to narrow down the accused car among 31 hatchbacks which were registered to the owners living near murder spot. On Sunday afternoon, the car was found in Kamla Nagar at Rajeev Agrawal’s residence."
By the time this report was filed,
Hariparvat police along with surveillance team were heading back to the police station along with apprehended murder accused Rajeev Agrawal.
Ajay Kaushal, station house officer of Hariparvat said, "The accused's car has been seized and he has accepted his crime. His family has history of illegal betting business also."
For solving the blind murder case within 15 hours, IG Agra Satish Ganesh has awarded the police team Rs 10000 cash, and also recommended SP City Botre Rohan Pramod and CO Hariparvat Saurabh Dixit for DGP commendation disc.
Police will send the case to fast track court for earliest possible conviction of murder accused. The case trial in court would be monitored by SSP Agra Babloo Kumar.
