PATNA: A tyre businessman of Kolkata was shot dead by an unidentified criminal at Siwan railway station on Sunday.
The incident took place around 3pm when Mohammad Faisal (30), along with his newlywed wife Anjum Khatoon, was waiting for Bagh Express to travel to Kolkata. A youth in his early 20s reached platform number 1 and fired at him at close-range from behind.
Faisal, who used to assist his father Moti-ur-Rehman in the tyre business in Kolkata, was rushed to the sadar hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment late in the evening.
His wife told the police that she had reached the platform from her in-laws’ house at Sultanpur in the town to board the train for Kolkata.
Muzaffarpur SRP Sanjay Kumar said Faisal, who was married about six months ago, had come to Siwan from Kolkata to take his wife, who was at her parents’ house at Laxmipur village under Mufassil police station area in Siwan district. A couple of days ago, he came to his Sultanpur home with his wife before leaving for Kolkata, he said.
Though the deceased belonged to Siwan, his family is settled in Kolkata. “The reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained,” he said.
Surprisingly, there is no CCTV camera installed at the railway platform. “The process of installing CCTV cameras is underway,” the SRP said, adding that some video clips have been obtained from nearby shops to ascertain the identity of the killer, who is suspected to be known either to the deceased or his wife. The police have already informed Faisal’s father, who has left for Siwan.
