Andhra Pradesh: Three of a family electrocuted in Chittoor district

TIRUPATI: In a tragic incident, three members of a family, including a four-year-old boy were electrocuted near Vellampalli ST colony in Srikalahasti mandal of Chittoor district on Monday.
According to Srikalahasti rural DSP E Nagendrudu, Krishnaiah (50), his sister-in-law Chenchamma (48) and grandson Gatutham (4), all residents of Vellampalli ST colony in Srikalahasti rural mandal went to fetch firewood on Monday morning.

When they were on their way to the nearby woods, the boy Gautham tried to cross a farm land which had barbed wire fencing. He suffered an electric shock when he tried to sneak through the barbed wire. Noticing this, Krishnaiah tried to save him but when he came in contact with the boy, he too suffered electric shock and both of them succumbed to the ground. His sister-in-law, who was traumatized watching them, tried to find out if they were conscious and came in contact with the duo and she too collapsed at the spot.
By the time help and police arrived, all the three were dead.
Srikalahasti DSP E Nagendruru, along with SI Timothy reached the spot and shifted the bodies of the deceased to the Srikalahasti government hospital for post-mortem.
DSP Nagendrudu said the farmland belongs to an ex-army man identified as Lakshmipathi, had an illegal electricity connection passing through the farmland and one of the wires was found to have come in contact with the barbed fencing, which when came in contact with, led to the death of the three members of a family.
Srikalahasti police said cases would be booked against the farmland owner Lakshmipathi under section 304 of the IPC for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
