TIRUPATI: Chittoor police will soon form Mahila Mithra committees comprising of women cops, representatives from the non-government organizations and women from different walks of life to effectively tackle the ever increasing crime against women and children across the district.
As a first step towards forming Mahila Mithra committees, Chittoor police organized a workshop for women cops including police constables and sub-inspector rank personnel and laid out a road-map for the to-be formed Mahila Mithra committees.

Addressing the women cops, Chittoor SP S Senthil Kumar told them the police-women will act as coordinators of the Mahila Mithra committees and bring together NGOs and women from different strata of life to effectively execute the road-map to ensuring the district is a safe place for children and women.
''Once the committees are in place, a series of awareness programmes would be held at schools, colleges and rural areas to sensitize women and children on the existing laws which ensure safety of women and children. The committees shall elucidate the existing mechanisms in place for effective grievance readressal'', added the SP.
''The aim of the Chittoor district police wing is to drastically bring down the crime rate against women and children across the district by empowering them through a series of awareness camps and other programmes. Other issues including human trafficking, child marriages etc would also be covered by the Mahila Mithra committees to bring about a change in the society'', reiterated Senthil Kumar.
