Sadio Mane has been labelled as ‘the new Cristiano Ronaldo’ by former Netherlands manager Danny Blind.

The Liverpool forward has been in fine form this season, scoring 13 goals in all competitions as the Reds sit top of the Premier League and are on the cusp of the Champions League knockout stages.

The Senegalese star has been continually excellent since joining Liverpool from Southampton in 2016 and Blind believes his form can now see him placed in the same category as Cristiano Ronaldo.

The father of former Manchester United defender Daley, Blind says the 27-year-old has every talent you would look for in an attack-minded player.

‘Sadio Mane is the new Ronaldo in world football,’ Blind told the Mirror.

‘As an attacking player he is absolutely fantastic. I can go through all his qualities – and he is superb in every aspect.

‘He can score with his left foot, right foot and with sensational headers.

‘He can give brilliant assists, he is an incredible athlete, and I could go on even more.

‘Mane is the super modern player. If you look at his skills, that is one great thing, but he is able to combine that with astonishing sprints right throughout the game.

‘That requires so much power. You have to be incredibly strong both physically and mentally. Sadio has it all.

‘I don’t compare Mane to [Lionel] Messi. I think Sadio is much more like Cristiano Ronaldo in his very best years.’

Liverpool have made a cracking start to their busy December, securing Premier League wins over Everton and Bournemouth.

They are back in Champions League action on Tuesday night at Red Bull Salzburg where they need to avoid defeat to make the last 16 of the competition.

The Reds then have six more matches before the end of the year with commitments in the Club World Cup and EFL Cup outside the Premier League action.
