Sai Praneeth gets hitched to Swetha Jayanthi in Kakinada
Badminton star B Sai Praneeth tied the knot with Swetha Jayanthi in a traditional wedding at the bride’s hometown, Kakinada, on Sunday. The wedding was a close-knit affair with only friends and family members in attendance. It was a typical Telugu brahmin wedding, with pujas commencing at 9 am leading up to the muhurtam at 10:48 am. Some of Praneeth’s seniors from the badminton academy were also present, as well as India’s doubles star Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, who shared pictures from the wedding on social media.

“Sai and I have been friends since childhood. In fact, my father and Sai’s father are best friends, so our families are extremely close. It was great to be with Sai on his special day. Although it’s an arranged marriage, the both of them seem very much in love,” shared Satwik, who made the trip to Kakinada from his hometown, Amalapuram. “The wedding in itself was a very simple, private affair. It was simple wedding, where puja started from 9 am and went on till 5 pm and elders came to bless the newlyweds. Even the food they served was traditional bhojanam that you would typically find at weddings in Andhra Pradesh. Everybody had a great time,” added Satwik. Interestingly, 2019 has been an excellent year for Sai Praneeth, both personally and professionally. The badminton ace ended India’s 36-year-long wait for a Men’s singles medal at the World Championships when he won the bronze medal in Basel in August.
He also received the Arjuna Award this year. “I’ve never seen him this happy and I hope he continues to shine, on and off the field,” Satwik adds. After a traditional wedding, the couple also hosted a grand reception in Hyderabad on Monday night.
