SURAT: The three kids, who went missing from Udhna area of the city a day earlier, returned home after their ‘excursion’ to Mumbai on Monday. The kids had ventured out of their houses with Rs50 in their pockets, thinking of having good time in Mumbai. However, they realized it would be risky to be there without money and decided to return to the city. The kids went to Mumbai in Saurashtra Mail and returned in Avadh Express.
Initially, they made up a story that they were taken by a man but during detailed questioning by police, they revealed the truth.
Dhurv Manish Kumakiya, 12, was good friends with brothers Satyam Ramkishan Rai, 7, and Shivam, 6, They went missing from their houses in Udhna at around 11am on Sunday. They were captured by a CCTV camera leaving their housing society on a bicycle which was later found by police in the slums behind Udhna police station. They had asked a woman to keep their bicycle for Rs50. The children told her they will return with the money in the evening and take their bicycle back.
At around 4am, a person at Udhna railway station alerted railway cops about the three kids moving suspiciously on platform. Government Railway Police had the photos of the boys and after confirmation that they were the same trio reported missing, they alerted Udhna cops. The boys were soon united with their families by the cops.
“Of the three boys, Dhruv lived in Borivali in Mumbai before his family moved to the city seven months ago. He was missing Mumbai and wanted to visit it and hence planned a trip with his friends,” a police officer said.
He had promised his friends that he will take them to see interesting places in Mumbai. “They got scared seeing the crowd once their train reached Borivali railway station. They immediately dropped their plan to visit the city. They did not go out of the railway station and asked people about a train to return home in Surat,” police said.
