Bhopal: To increase state’s production of renewable energy, the Kamal Nath government will set up a 2,000 MW Solar Power Park in the Bundelkhand and Chambal regions, minister for renewable energy Harsh Yadav told reporters on Tuesday.
“A new solar park will be established stretching from Sagar to Chhattarpur districts and parts of Chambal. First phase of the project will be started from Devri, Banda, Kareli and Jaisinghnagar in Sagar district to Morena, Joura and Kolaras in the Chambal areas,” minister said.

Areas have been identified for the project and the process has been initiated, Yadav told reporters while briefing the media on achievements on completion of the first year of chief minister Kamal Nath in office. “The areas identified have rocky soil and are not suitable for agriculture,” he said.

The minister claimed that the 750 MW Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project has nearly been completed over the past one year. “By end of this month, Rewa will start producing its optimum 750 MW. Every day, 99 MW goes from this project to the Delhi Metro Rail. We are proud that Delhi Metro runs on power from the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited,” the minister said.

Harsh Yadav argued that the state government over the past one year has installed solar roof top in 291 government colleges, 126 engineering colleges and ITI (Industrial Training Institutes), 13 medical colleges, 107 police department buildings, central government offices and 14 universities. “In the next four years, at least 500 MW of solar roof tops will be installed under the project and the state will witness a revolution,” the minister claimed. He explained that solar energy is produced at the cheapest rate of Rs 1.38 per unit when compared to other sources of electricity.

A 500 KW of solar plant has been set-up near Upper Lake in Bhopal, the minister said. The plant will fulfill energy needs of the pump house near Karbala and will save around Rs 40 lakh annually, he added.
