DxO PhotoLab Gets An Update For New Camera Models and Keyword Management For Windows

This article is more than 4 years old.

Back in October, I took a look at DxO’s PhotoLab 3, the latest photo-editing and image cataloging software that features an innovative new ColorWheel feature as well as redesigned Repair and Clone tools. Now the software has received an update that adds Photo Library keyword management to the Windows version of the software and also adds support for a number of camera models released in the latter half of this year.

In addition to the search criteria that are already available in the DxO PhotoLibrary (metadata, shooting parameters, folders, etc.), DxO PhotoLab 3.1 has now added keyword management for computers running Windows, a feature that was previously only available in the macOS version of the software. This feature enables photographers to add, delete, or rename keywords assigned to one or several images simultaneously. It’s also possible to display keywords associated with an image, including images imported from other XMP-compatible software, and add them to multi-criteria searches.

DxO’s engineers have taken the opportunity of this update to add support for a number of major camera models that were released towards the end of 2019. Version 3.1 now supports the Canon EOS 90D, EOS M6 Mark II and EOS M200, Fuji GFX 100, Nikon Z50, Olympus E-M5 Mark III, as well as the Sony A6600 and A6100. There’s also preliminary support for Sony’s A9 II.

The one feature that marks out PhotoLab 3.1 from other image-editing and photo-cataloging software is the inclusion of 3,000 optical modules to the software’s image-correction database. PhotoLab 3.1 can now reference more than 55,000 different combinations of camera bodies and lenses. The new camera and lens combinations include data for the Canon RF 15-35mm F2.8L IS USM and RF 24-70mm F2.8L IS USM, the Fujinon GF 50mm F3.5 R LM WR, and GF 110mm F2 R LM WR, the Nikkor Z 85mm F1.8 S, the Sony E 16-55mm F2.8 G, and the Tamron 17-28mm F2.8 Di III RXD for Sony FE. Using the RAW conversion technology included in DxO PhotoLab 3, photos taken with these new cameras and lenses will be automatically corrected for any optical faults, such as distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberrations, or even a lack of sharpness.

These new image-correction updates cover the most popular recent camera launches aimed specifically at the professional photography market and are especially welcome. The DxO image correction function is well worth trying out using DxO’s free 30-day trial of the software because it’s incredibly effective. I’ve tried it out on a number of my own images and it’s especially good at correcting architectural photography where converging verticals can be a problem.
