LUCKNOW: The station house officer of Auraiya’s Mahila Thana was suspended for laxity, 11 days after she failed to register an FIR in a case of gang rape.
An 18-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gang-raped in a moving SUV in Auraiya on November 29.
The survivor’s father had thrice visited Mahila Thana to register an FIR but the station house officer refused to file it.

Later, her family met SP Auraiya and got an FIR registered on December 7.
SP Auraiya Suniti told TOI that an inquiry was sought against station house officer Mahila Thana Neelam Pandey, during which her laxity in not registering an FIR surfaced. As a result, she was suspended.
“We have detained an Army jawan named by the survivor for her abduction and gang-rape. The claims of the jawan are also being verified,” the SP said.
Police have got two eyewitnesses of the crime scene who are being quizzed, she added.

Meanwhile, sources said no CCTV footage of the act could be recovered from the stretch where the 18-year-old survivor was abducted and gang-raped.
They blamed the SHO for acting late.
“The back-up of recording in CCTVs remains only for a period of two days. Had the SHO acted swiftly, the exact sequence of the events would have come out,” they added.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
