New York Jets At Baltimore Ravens: Thursday Night Football Week 15 TV Schedule, Odds And Picks

Following
This article is more than 4 years old.

The Baltimore Ravens (11-2) host the New York Jets (5-8) on Thursday Night Football to open Week 15 of the 2019 NFL season. The results of this contest will help piece together the puzzle that is the AFC playoff field, even with the Jets playing for little more than pride at this point. Baltimore is currently sitting atop both the AFC North and the conference, but the club has yet to lock up either with three games still to be played. A victory tonight would wrap up the division for the Ravens, but they will also likely need to win next week’s matchup against the Cleveland Browns—a team that beat them earlier in the year—to secure a first-round bye and homefield advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. Although Baltimore did best the New England Patriots (10-3) already this season, that longtime rival and the Kansas City Chiefs (9-4)—who handed the Ravens their only road loss this year—both remain within striking distance and could gain ground if the Jets can pull an upset tonight. If both of those teams lose in Week 15, however, and Baltimore emerges victorious in this game, then the Ravens would have the No. 1 seed in hand. If one of the Patriots or Chiefs loses, Baltimore would be assured at least a first-round bye assuming they win tonight.

Fortunately for fans in Baltimore, it doesn’t appear likely that Gang Green will become just the second team to win at M&T Bank stadium during the 2019 NFL season. Bookmakers have installed the Ravens as 16.5-point chalk for this Thursday Night Football matchup, which is the largest spread of any Week 15 game. Bettors have been all over Baltimore since the contest went up on the board, forcing the line to move two points after opening at 14.5. With just a few hours remaining until tonight’s 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff, 55% of all bets and a whopping 69% of money wagered against the spread are on the home side. The total hasn’t changed from its initial mark of 45 points despite 60% of all tickets on the over. The money is more evenly split, with exactly 50% of the handle on each side of the total.

The Jets certainly shouldn’t be underestimated after winning four of their last five games, but they’ll face what looks to be their toughest test of the campaign this evening. It doesn’t help Gang Green’s cause that they have a myriad of contributors on the injury report and are on a short week of rest after barely slipping past the lowly Miami Dolphins last week, especially against a Baltimore opponent that has won its last nine and covered the spread as a favorite in four of its last five games. Will New York overcome all odds and find a way to win in front of a nationally televised audience, or will the Ravens accomplish what everyone is expecting and trounce this foe to stay atop the standings? Vegas expert Jon Price of SportsInformationTraders.com has a lean on the outcome and readers won’t want to miss who is he taking to cover the spread in this primetime affair. Thursday Night Football Week 15 Betting Trends, Quotes And Facts

The Ravens are 8-2 SU and ATS all-time against the Jets.

ESPN Stats & Info noted that Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson is in striking distance of an all-time rushing record for a QB and that the Ravens can clinch the AFC North crown if they win on Thursday Night Football:

The Jets outright won, 24-16, and covered as two-point home chalk in the most recent matchup during the 2016 campaign.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said his team won’t be underestimating the Jets and praised their physicality on defense (via SI.com):

They’re playing great. They won four of the last five, that’s the bottom line. When you look at it, that’s it. That’s what we talked to the guys about. That’s all you need to know. Watch the tape. They’re playing winning football. We understand that. We know this league. Our guys don’t take anybody for granted. You never can, you never should. But certainly not a team that’s won four of the last five games, has players like Le’Veon Bell and [Robby] Anderson and [Sam] Darnold on offense, and just everybody on defense. It’s just a great defense – [Jamal] Adams, they have players everywhere. And they play really hard, and they’re very physical. So, our guys do understand that. I do appreciate that about our guys.

John Harbaugh on his team not taking any NFL opponent for granted.

Kevin Oestreicher pointed out that the Ravens may want to start thinking about if they should rest their key players for the playoffs if they pull off back-to-back wins in games they will be heavily favored in:

Baltimore is 7-6 ATS during the 2019 NFL season, while New York is 5-8 ATS in the same span.

Adam Schefter reported that Lamar Jackson will play in Week 15 despite showing up on the injury report as questionable with a quad issue:

The total has gone UNDER in three of the last four meetings between these teams.

Jets head coach Adam Gase claimed that his team can’t waste a single play against the Baltimore defense and credited Lamar Jackson for adding a new dynamic to the Ravens potent offense (via SNY.tv):

We have to play well as an offense. We can't be going three-and-out and giving them more opportunities than they're already going to get. That's the hardest thing about calling plays, you feel like every play is valuable, there's no throwaway plays…(Jackson) runs their offense very well. Obviously how they're running the football now is as good as you've ever seen. He's making all the throws, they're being creative.

Adam Gase on facing the Ravens in Week 15.

Luke Grant highlighted Jets quarterback Sam Darnold’s impressive stats over the last five games:

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh is 3-1 SU during his career against the Jets, while Adam Gase—his counterpart on the New York sidelines—is 0-2 SU against the Ravens.

OddsShark revealed the latest Super Bowl odds, a list that Baltimore tops at +215:

Home teams are 9-4 SU, but just 5-8 ATS on Thursday Night Football during the 2019 NFL season.

Lamar Jackson claimed that opponents are going after his legs more, which doesn’t surprise him as the leading rusher (1,017 yards and seven touchdowns on 151 attempts) on the league’s top rushing (200.9 yards per game, 5.5 yards per attempt) team (via BaltimoreRavens.com):

Yeah, they have [started taking more shots at the legs]. A lot more and especially when I’m inside the pocket. When I’m out on the edge, I kind of avoid it. But when I’m in the pocket trying to complete a throw, that’s when nine times out of 10 they’re going for my legs. I can’t do nothing about it. I’m trying to complete that pass. We’re playing football, it’s an aggressive game. They’re trying to make a tackle and I’m trying to make a move.

Lamar Jackson on how he has noticed more opponents tackling his legs.
