KOLKATA: The state government wants to come up with a proper system to regularize
car parking across Kolkata and
Howrah.
Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) on Thursday floated expression of interest (EoI) to engage a consulting agency that will prepare a road-map and comprehensive plan for car parking in Kolkata and Howrah. The selected agency will need to prepare the plan within 10 months from the date of commencing work.
According to KMDA officials, the city is expanding further towards Garia and Baruipur in one end and towards Rajarhat in the other.
The population is also increasing along with the number of four-wheelers and the requirement of having more and more designated parking lots is only increasing as there is already lack of adequate car parking lots in Kolkata.
Cars are also often parked in no-parking zones and cops regularly get complaints of irregularity in car parking fees. The consulting agency that will be engaged will look in to all these issues and prepare a comprehensive plan to streamline the matter.
