BAREILLY: A local court here has ordered to attach the properties of 19 absconding accused, who allegedly lynched a man in Sambhal on the suspicion of child lifting. So far, 12 people have been arrested and sent to jail in connection with the case.
Inspector of Chandausi police station, Dharmpal Singh, told TOI on Thursday that the absconding accused were asked to surrender, but nobody turned up, following which the court ordered to seize their properties.

“We had conducted several raids to trace the accused, who are still on the run, but didn’t get any clue about their whereabouts. Now, a notice to attach their properties has been issued by the court, which has been pasted on the wall of the houses of these accused,” Singh said.
The lynching took place on August 27 when a mob confronted Raju and his brother Ramavtar, residents of Chhabada village, while taking their nephew, Ravi, to a doctor.
The mob mistook them for child lifters and started thrashing them with sticks and belts. Raju succumbed to his injuries while Ramavtar was referred to a Moradabad hospital in critical condition.
Soon after the incident, 12 named and 20 unnamed were booked under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with ), 149 (unlawful assembly), 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
, including the main culprit, were arrested on the same day the crime was committed, whereas eight others were nabbed during raids in the subsequent days.

Among the accused, the National Security Act (NSA) was imposed on Bantu, who was leading the mob and instigated villagers to attack the two brothers, superintendent of police Yamuna Prasad told TOI.
During the investigation, the police managed to identify 19 accused, out of the 20 unnamed in the FIR.
The 19 absconding accused, who were identified, are Vikram, Rajendra, Deepak, Sonu, Arjun, Tinku, Rohit, Heeralal, Karan, Sushil, Sabu, Mukesh, Naresh, Arvind, Subhash, Neeraj, Pramod, Harshit and Dharmendra.
Notably, after a series of mob attacks over suspicion of child-lifting in western UP earlier in August and September, the director general of police OP Singh had instructed the department to deal with “with an iron fist” and book the accused and under the NSA.
