MUZAFFARPUR: Police on Friday night arrested an autorickshaw driver, the prime accused in the case related to gang rape of a 15-year-old school girl, from a village under the Minapur police station area in the district.
The incident had come to light on December 10, when the girl’s parents admitted her to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital here after her condition deteriorated.
The girl was allegedly gang-raped at a village under the Ahiapur police station area on December 9 while returning home from her coaching classes on a bicycle.
Police sources said the arrested autorickshaw driver had kidnapped the girl along with his two accomplices.
Muzaffarpur SSP Jayant Kant said a special team led by SHO of Women police station Abha Rani was formed to investigate the case. “It was tough for police to locate the culprits and find the spot where the incident had occurred as the girl and her parents had not given us any clue, except saying that the crime was committed by an auto driver and two of his accomplices,” Kant said, adding that the police finally got some clues about the main accused on Friday and succeeded in arresting him. The SSP, however, refused to reveal the identity of the arrested man.
Accused surrenders:
Mukesh Kumar, one of the three youths accused of setting an undergraduate college student on fire after failing to outrage her modesty, surrendered before the chief judicial magistrate court in Muzaffarpur on Saturday. The incident had taken place at a village under the Ahiapur police station area on December 7. The main accused, Raja Rai, was earlier arrested by the police. The third accused is still at large.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
