Liverpool were given a spectacular welcome as they arrived in Qatar for the FIFA Club World Cup .

Hundreds of fans waited outside the Reds' hotel as they arrived in the hope of becoming world champions in a week's time.

The Reds, who secured qualification by winning the Champions League in June , will face Mexican outfit Monterrey on Wednesday evening at the Khalifa International Stadium.

Should Liverpool win, they will play either Copa Libertadores winners Flamengo or Al Hilal FC in the final on Saturday.

Speaking after the Reds arrived in Qatar, Klopp admitted that the Reds are desperate to make history by winning the trophy for the first time.

He said: “This competition gives the squad the opportunity to achieve something new, the chance to win Liverpool’s first ever Club World Cup. It’s been a busy but incredible year and of course we will give everything to wrap-up 2019 with this title.

"We followed the matches yesterday and are looking forward to playing Monterrey on Wednesday with the support of all the Liverpool fans that are travelling to Doha or living in Qatar."
