CM Nitish Kumar urged to walk the talk and get Magadh divisional commissioner's office demolished as it was built on a pond

CM Nitish Kumar urged to walk the talk and get Magadh divisional commissioner's office demolished as it was built on a pond
GAYA: As the chief minister Nitish Kumar has directed officials to restore all water bodies by removing all constructions made on such sources of water recharge, Pratijnya, a forum of Gaya based activists has urged the CM to walk the talk and get the divisional commissioner's office demolished as it was built on what used to be a pond.
The pond was first filled with mud and the commissioner’s office was subsequently built on it.
The petition signed by Pratijnya president and water activist Brajnandan Pathak said that the divisional commissioner’s office is spread over an area of one acre and six decimals of land, and as per the records of Cadastral Survey 1914, it used to be a pond.
Pathak, earlier sought information under RTI, about the nature of land on which the office was built. The Gaya Municipal Corporation informed Pathak that as per the records of the 1914 Survey, it was the property of ‘Qaiser E Hind’ (emperor of India) and a pond existed there at the time of the official land Survey. According to Rai Madan Kishore, former municipal commissioner of Gaya, after independence, all property belonging to the ‘Qaiser E Hind’ were automatically vested in the govt.
Gaya, it may be recalled, has been facing perennial water shortage and soon after assuming office in 2005, CM Nitish Kumar camped for several days in Gaya to address the issue. The city continues to be water starved says activist Motibhai.
Only recently, initiative has been taken to link the dry Falgu river with Ganga to provide water to Gayaites. DPR for the project is likely to cost more than Rs 1000 crore and it is under progress.
