Anti-CAA stir: Jafrabad, Maujpur-Babarpur metro station still closed; Seelampur, Welcome reopen

A number of metro stations have been closed in Delhi due to ongoing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Fresh protests broke out in Delhi's Jafrabad following which metro stations in the vicinity have been shut by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

A number of metro stations have been closed in Delhi due to ongoing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Fresh protests broke out in Delhi's Jafrabad following which metro stations in the vicinity were shut by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Protesters vandalized three buses and a police bike, stoking tension in the area. Later, tear gas shells were fired on protesters by the police.

Metro stations in Delhi shut by DMRC on December 17:

Seelampur (reopened at 4.30 pm)

Gokulpuri (reopened at 5.55 pm)

Welcome (reopened at 5.55 pm)

Jafrabad 

Maujpur-Babarpur

Johri Enclave (reopened at 5.55 pm)

Shiv Vihar (reopened at 5.55 pm)

Earlier on Monday, six metro stations were closed in Delhi due to protests against the Act in different parts of Delhi. These included Jamia Millia Islamia Metro Station, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Udyog Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Marg, and Janpath. 

Metro commuters faced difficulties on Sunday as well when gates of several stations were closed due to violence following protest and arson. Entry and exit gates of 13 stations were closed for several hours in view of the violent protests near New Friends' Colony. These metro stations included Jamia Millia Islamia, Okhla Vihar, Jasola Vihar, Shaheen Bagh, Sukhdev Vihar, Ashram, GTB Nagar, Shivaji Stadium, Patel Chowk, Vishwavidyalaya, Vasant Vihar, Munirka, RK Puram.
