6-year-old raped by neighbour in Bihar

PATNA: A six-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped under Lakshmipur police station area in Jamui district on Monday evening.
Police said the incident took place around 5.30pm when the victim was playing in a field outside her residence. The accused, Dharamveer Kumar, allegedly picked up and confined the victim in a room and raped her.
The family members started searching her when she was not found nearby.Another girl, who was playing with the victim, revealed that she had seen Dharamveer, a neighbour, taking her away. When the family members reached the accused’s house, the girl was found lying in a pool of blood.
The survivor was rushed to the Sadar hospital at Jamui in a critical condition. The victim’s mother, a homemaker, later lodged an FIR with Lakshmipur police station against Dharamveer. “The victim used to call the accused ‘uncle’. Dharamveer was arrested on Tuesday morning,” Lakshmipur police station SHO Raj Kumar said, adding that the girl was sent for medical examination on Tuesday. The SHO said the medical report was awaited.
During interrogation, Dharamveer confessed to the crime. The victim’s relatives said they had informed the police about the incident soon after the girl was traced in the accused’s house. But they reached the village on Tuesday morning. The SHO, however, said the police station received information late in the night.
Meanwhile, Jamui SP Inamul Haque Mengnoo has assured the victim’s family of speedy justice. “We will list the case for speedy trial once the medical report is received from the hospital. The accused has already been arrested in the case,” he told reporters in Jamui.
