Kolhapur: Man gets life in jail for raping daughter

KOLHAPUR: Islampur court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating his minor daughter. The offence was registered following a complaint by the accused’s wife.
Identified as Laxman Dnyanu Waghmare, the accused was pronounced guilty by judicial magistrate (first class) Shekhar Munghate. Waghmare was sentenced after considering ten witnesses and a DNA report of his daughter and her baby.The girl had delivered a child, the court had observed.
According to the prosecution, Waghmare and his family resided at Kasegaon in Sangli district. He worked as a farm worker while his wife was a domestic help in the same area.
According to Waghmare’s wife, he committed the crime in September 2017 when his daughter was about to leave for school. At the time, Laxman threatened his daughter to keep silence and had threatened her with dire consequences.
The victim later narrated the ordeal to her mother who approached the police. Later, the minor girl was found to be pregnant. A DNA test established a connection between the baby and accused. It was produced in the court during the hearing of the case.
