PATNA: The 22-year-old girl who had suffered 95% burn injuries while resisting molestation bid in Muzaffarpur on December 7, died at a private hospital in Patna late on Monday.
The victim's condition deteriorated on Monday evening. She breathed her last around 11.40pm, said Dr Sanjay Kumar of Apollo Burn hospital at Agamkuan in Patna City.
He said she was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
"It would have been a miracle, she would have survived," he said, adding, her internal organs had been badly affected due to burn injuries.
The victim's brother-in-law had earlier requested to the senior health department officials to shift her to Delhi but in vain. The officials said the survivor was being treated at government expenses and she was provided the best treatment at the facility.
The victim, an undergraduate student, had suffered injuries when she resisted molestation bid at her house under Ahiyapur police limit in Muzaffarpur district on December 7.
The matter came to the surface when she was shifted to the SKMCH at Muzaffarpur by her mother, an ANM at a primary health centre in Muzaffarpur district, the next day of the incident.
A complaint was lodged with the Ahiyapur police station on the statement of the victim's mother. The police arrested the prime accused Raja Rai and sent him to judicial custody. However, his associate is still at large.

On Sunday, the state women commission chairperson Dilmani Mishra had directed the Muzaffarpur district authority to pay Rs 8 lakh as compensation to the victim's family.
The police had recorded the victim's statement afresh after the state women commission's intervention in which she accused Raja and his accomplice of setting her ablaze after they failed in their molestation attempt.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
