SASARAM: A Dalit girl, who survived a rape attempt on Sunday, was shot at on Tuesday morning in a village under Rajpur police station in Bihar’s Rohtas district.
She was allegedly shot at by some associates of the four youths, who had tried to rape her when she had gone to the fields early on Sunday to attend nature’s call. “The four attackers were arrested on Sunday itself,” the local police said, adding, the injured girl has been admitted to a hospital at Jamuhar, where she is stated to be out of danger.
The minor girl was shot at despite the presence of a police contingent led by a senior officer.
The police personnel were posted after Sunday’s gang-rape attempt, which led to enraged villagers torching the house of one of the accused the next day.

“The girl’s father has named three people. However, no FIR has been lodged in the firing incident,” a senior police officer said.
According to reports, the rape attempt by four youths sparked tension in the village with protesters attacking the houses of the accused belonging to a particular community. Rohtas SP Satyaveer rushed to the village with reinforcement to bring the situation under control. “All accused were arrested and the girl’s medical examination was done the same day. Her statement was also recorded in the court under Section 164 CrPC on Monday,” police said.

The incidents on Monday and Tuesday took place despite the fact that armed police personnel of three neighbouring police stations led by several magistrates and Bikramganj DSP Raj Kumar were camping in the village since Sunday following the gang-rape attempt.
The DSP, however, said the situation was under control and police are camping in the village only as a precautionary measure.
