NAWADA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for various schemes worth Rs 570 crore in the district.
The CM was here to boost the ‘Jal Jeevan Hariyali Abhiyan’, aimed at conserving energy and water through extensive digging of ponds and forestation in the state.
To create widespread awareness about the significance of the scheme, he appealed to the gathering to come forward and form a statewide human chain on January 19.
Without naming any political party he cautioned the people to maintain social and communal harmony in the face of divisive politics in which some political parties are indulging.
Addressing the gathering at Rajauli, Nitish said he will divert the water of river Ganga to Nawada in the second phase after Nalanda and Gaya districts. He said his government during the last 15 years has set many examples like giving reservation to women in panchayat polls, cycle to school students, toilets and electricity to every house hold.
The CM was, however, forced to cancel his scheduled programme of visiting a stall put up by Jeevika at Primary School, Pranchak, due to the poor road condition. After barely walking for a few meters on the village road, he was forced to retrace his steps as it was badly damaged. He lashed out at the officials, including Nawada DM Kaushal Kumar for the shoddy road condition.
Rajauli road works department (RWD) executive engineer Satya Narayan Rai said that the road was recently repaired but due to recent spell of showers on Monday and continuous flow of traffic, it was again damaged.
The CM was accompanied by rural development minister Shravan Kumar, former JD(U) MLA Kaushal Yadav and a host of officials. Elaborate security arrangements were made in the extremist-hit area.
