19 parameters were used to rank police stations.
KALABURAGI: Gabbur police station in Raichur district has been ranked the best in Karnataka and figures among the top 10 in the country. In October, the Union home ministry appointed Grant Thornton to survey 79 police stations across the country and rank them. Aberdeen police station in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands topped the national list.
Gabbur police station in Devadurga taluk of Raichur, 480km from Bengaluru, scored well in crime prevention, investigation and disposal of cases, crime detection, community policing and maintenance of law & order.

Raichur SP Vedamurthy said the survey was done in two parts. In the first, 19 parameters were used to evaluate the standard of service delivery and identify techniques of improvement in policing. In the second, the survey focused on infrastructure at police station and approachability of personnel towards people who go to file complaints.
The survey also took into account citizens' feedback. "The approachable police personnel and their efficient work got us this high ranking,'' Vedamurthy said.
The Union home ministry started to rank police stations across the country following a direction from Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the DGP's conference in Gujarat in 2015.
