CBSE’s datesheet for Class X, XII exams evokes mixed reactions among students

Ludhiana : The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released the CBSE Class X datesheet 2020 and CBSE Class XII datesheet 2020 on Wednesday night. Students gave mixed reactions to it. Many of them complained about the lack of gap days between core subjects of particular streams. However, a handful of students looked genuinely happy with the datesheet.
A teacher of GNPS Sarabha Nagar said, “For Class X, the datesheet for final exams is balanced and satisfactory. However, for Class XII Board, the students opting for Maths, Punjabi, Legal Studies, Physical education, and Entrepreneurship have no gaps betwen their papers. The board must think it over, as these subjects are equally important for students. However, for Medical and Non-medical students, the datesheet is balanced.”
In general, teachers and students are satisfied with Class X CBSE datesheet. In Class XII, the Science stream teachers and students are more or less satisfied. Monisha Biswas, the supervisor for senior secondary and English teacher from DAV School, said, “Commerce students with Information Practices as optional subject don’t have sufficient time to prepare for Business Studies paper, and students with Music as an optional subject don’t have a day off for their Maths paper. With the same situation, Humanities stream students and teachers are not happy with the datesheet, as the number of days between two exams for most of the subjects are very few for thorough preparation. It will be better if CBSE reviews it in the interest of students.”
Harsheen Kaur, a Class XII Humanities student of DAV School, Pakhowal Road, said, “My subjects are English Core, Painting, Psychology, Political Science, Economics, and Mathematics. I have got sufficient days for preparation in all subjects except Psychology, as the painting exam is on February 20, and then on February 22, it is my Psychology exam, which gives me only one day for its preparation.”
Sushant Ralhan, another Humanities student, said, “The datesheet required to give more preparatory holdidays in subjects such as Political Science, History, Economics, and Mathematics. Those pursuing Music have no preparatory holiday for Mathematics. With such a vast syllabus, the preparatory holidays are not sufficient, but the order of subjects is right. The exams must have commenced from the first week of March to have enough time to prepare.”
PGT Economics teacher Deepa said, “The datesheet that has been released seems to be good from the point of view of students, and it is the first time that the datesheet has been released in December, thus giving the students enough time to plan well in advance for the coming exams.”
Tejpreet, a tutor and director of the institute Edusquare in Dugri, said, “The datesheet is better than previous years, as in the first week of April, the JEE main exam starts, and the students will focus purely on Class XII syllabus for the board exams from the end of February to the middle of March. Then, within four days or a week, they have to prepare for the competitive exam. Now, non-medical exams are getting over by March 17 and medical exams by March 14. Non-medical students will get three weeks to prepare for JEE and medical students will have 45 days to prepare for NEET.”
