Bihar: Rs 12.6 lakh looted from Muzaffarpur bank

MUZAFFARPUR: Unidentified armed criminals allegedly looted over Rs 12 lakh from Kamtaul branch of Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank under the Kurhani police station area of the district on Thursday.
The criminals also fired nearly six rounds in the air to terrorise the local residents while fleeing towards Muzaffarpur town after committing the loot which took place at around 2.45pm, when there were very few customers in the bank due to lunch hour.

DSP (West) KM Prasad said, “We can’t say anything at this point of time as we are collecting details of the incident from bank employees. All exit points of the district have been sealed and raids are on to nab the robbers.”
The bank employees told police that eight criminals barged into the bank and held them captive. As few customers were present in the bank at the time of occurrence, the criminals thrashed the guard and snatched the keys of the locker and collected cash. Bank manager Subodh Chandra Prasad said the criminals looted Rs 12. 6 lakh cash and fled on their motorbikes. “They first damaged the CCTV cameras and then collected cash from the counter before snatching the keys of the locker room from the cashier,” Prasad said.
Security guard Rama Rai said the criminals were in a hurry when they entered the bank. “They attacked me with a revolver butt when I tried to stop them near the gate. Two of them had covered their faces with helmet and towel,” he added.
