Secunderabad cantt board elections: Wards 2, 5 and 6 reserved for women, 8 for SCs

The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) on Thursday reserved wards II, V and VI of the eight civilian wards for women. With this, one of the key processes for the ensuing Cantonment Board polls, to be held in February 2020, has been completed.

SECUNDERABAD: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) on Thursday reserved wards II, V and VI of the eight civilian wards for women. With this, one of the key processes for the ensuing Cantonment Board polls, to be held in February 2020, has been completed.
SCB chief executive officer SVR Chandrasekhar in the presence of president cantonment board (PCB) Brigadier Abhijit Chandra, civilian ward members and former ward members drew the lots.
Wards II, V and VI were reserved for women, while wards I, III, IV and VII were reserved for the general category. Ward number VIII has been reserved for the SC category. “The process of reserving civilian wards for women has to be completed by December 24 as per the Centre’s orders. Now, we have completed the process and are sending the details to the Director-General Defence Estates (DGDE), Delhi,” Chandrasekhar said.

Meanwhile, civilian ward members, who have less chances of winning the polls, plan to field their spouses from the wards reserved for women. On the other hand, former ward members, who had won the polls in 2006 and 2015, plan to contest the polls. “The decision of fielding wives, kith and kin will be taken by TRS working president KT Rama Rao,” SCB vice-president J Ramakrishna told TOI. He said that there was a proposal to field his wife J Anuradha, who had won the polls in 2009, from ward number V.
Ward member, J Maheswara Reddy, has decided to contest the polls for the second time from ward number I. The SCB said names of woman contestants will be released in a week.
