PATNA: A day after criminals looted Rs 12.6 lakh from Kamtaul branch of Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank under the Kudhani police station area in Muzaffarpur district, criminals looted Rs.11.38 lakh from Sonbara branch of Dakshin Bihar Gramin Bank in Buxar district after holding the bank employees captive on Friday.
The criminals also fired six rounds in the air to terrorise the residents when they tried to chase them.
Reports reaching the police headquarters said that three criminals forcibly entered the bank around 11.05 am on Friday as soon as the bank started business for the day. Only three employees, including the manager, Jay Shanker Choubey, were present in the bank when the criminals started their operation.
Police said criminals in the age group of 20 and 25 years had covered their faces with mufflers to hide their identity. Soon after entering the bank, they held the staff captive at gun-point, confined them into the strong room and collected cash amounting to Rs.11.38.
They collected the cash and stuffed it in a bag, which they had carried with them and left the spot in a huff. The operation lasted hardly for about 10 minutes as nobody opposed the robbery. The incident came to the light when a female chowkidar Babita Kumari reached the bank after half-an-hour.
Babita opened the strong room, which was locked from outside by the robbers while fleeing the spot. The manager later informed the Buxar Industrial police station about the daylight robbery in the bank. On getting information, DSP (sadar) Satish Kumar and SP Upendra Nath Verma reached the spot and inquired about the incident.
Buxar Industrial police station SHO Hridayanand Ram said that there was a security guard at the bank. “The CCTV footages are being scanned. However, the robbers had covered their faces with mufflers to conceal their identity,” Ram said.
