NASHIK: As a part of the Christmas celebrations, children above the age of nine participated in carol-singing in various parts of the city.
Many schools and parishes are sending their students for door-to-carol-singing to mark the birthday of Jesus Christ. Children were seen gathering at church and then going out in separate groups to spread cheerfulness as the biggest festival of the Christian community approach.

The group divide themselves and try to reach out to as many families as they can in a day. The carol singing begins late in the evening around 6.30 pm and goes on till 10.30 pm at night.
Father Peter D’souza, from St Anne’s Cathedral, told TOI, “The children love to spread the message that God loves everyone. They sing carols by going to people’s houses and shops to send the message that they should be ready to receive Jesus Christ. It instills hope and positivity among them and brings faith in God.”
The students cherish it more when the followers of other religions also join them in carol singing and distribute sweets to them. “It is a wonderful feeling to see small children coming around and singing songs. It makes the atmosphere very pleasant. We wish them the best in life,” said Prerana Deshmukh, a resident of College Road after receiving a group of children at her house.
Over 450 families at Nashik Road parish have been visited by four groups of carol-singing children. The singing will end on Saturday and various competitions will begin from Sunday. And the inter-parish carol-singing competition will take place on Sunday evening at the Infant Jesus shrine at Nashik Road, where many schools are set to participate. Crib-making and star-making the competition will follow in the coming days. A skit will be performed on the ‘Boxing Day’, which falls on the next day of Christmas.
As the winter holidays start next week, many schools in the city will be having pre-Christmas celebrations. St Francis High School and Ryan International School had organised zonal competitions for carol singing and the winners are set to perform on December 23 during Christmas celebrations. The celebrations will include the performance of musical skits and distribution of goodies. Wisdom High School and Fravashi Academy are also going to celebrate Christmas on Monday.
