AURANGABAD: The Beed police have booked nearly 100 people under charges of attempt to murder and rioting for Friday’s violence during a rally. The police have also decided to deny any further permissions for rallies.
A group of about 2,000 people had gathered in Bashirgunj area of Beed city on Friday against CAA. At one point, stones were pelted at two state transport buses, injuring policemen.
The riot control police resorted to a lathicharge and used teargas to bring the situation under control.
“We have arrested 30 suspects. The others will be arrested soon,” Beed superintendent of police Harsh Poddar told TOI.
In all, eight cases have been registered against 400 suspects in connection with violence reported in other parts of Beed, Hingoli and Parbhani districts. Ninety have been arrested so far.
In Parbhani district, five offences have been registered against over 100 people for rioting, arson, using criminal force to deter government officials from performing their duty. The police have arrested 40 people.
Parbhani superintendent of police Krishnakant Upadhyay told TOI, “Two offences each have been registered at the police stations of Nanalpeth and Kotwali, while one has been registered at New Mondha police station.”
