In a first, Munger University (MU) has decided to offer professional development incentives to its faculty members as well as non-teaching staff with a view to augmenting their professional competence and work efficiency.

PATNA: In a first, Munger University (MU) has decided to offer professional development incentives to its faculty members as well as non-teaching staff with a view to augmenting their professional competence and work efficiency.
Under this scheme to be launched in the new year (2020), a cash award of Rs 25,000 would be given to one teacher each in the faculties of humanities, science, commerce, and social science for publishing maximum number of papers in standard research journals every year.
The teacher will be also given the ‘best researcher’ award.
Giving details of the professional development incentives for which a corpus fund of Rs 10 lakh has been created by the university , vice-chancellor Ranjit Kumar Verma said that a teacher will get Rs 5000 if his paper is published in a journal having an ‘Impact Factor’ of 1 and above. Similarly, a teacher will be given a cash award of Rs 10,000 for his each paper published in a journal with an Impact Factor above five.
With a view to creating an environment of research in the university, it has been decided to award cash prizes to the teachers who get research projects sanctioned from funding agencies like the UGC, department of science and technology (DST), department of biotechnology (DBT ), department of atomic energy, and Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). The teacher will get a sum of Rs one lakh from the university if the sanctioned project is worth more than Rs 10 lakh, Rs 50,000 if the project is worth anything between Rs 5 lakh and 10 lakh, and a sum of Rs 10,000 if the sanctioned project is worth anything between Rs 1 lakh and 5 lakh.
“The corpus fund created for professional development will be utilized by the faculty members for reimbursement of travel expenses for participation in national and international seminars, workshops and conferences, payment of membership fee of professional bodies, purchase of books, e-books, monographs, computer software, databases an reimbursement of telephone and mobile bills,” said Verma.
In order to promote work culture, the university has decided to award a cash prize of Rs 10,000 to one teacher every month who spends maximum hours in his college or department. Similalry, a cash award of Rs 5,000 would be given to the non-teaching staff who spends maximum hours in his office.
“The VC further said that a sum of Rs 10 lakh has been earmarked for launching academic and academic credit exchange programme and arriving at MoU with other universities and research laboratories. A sum of Rs 2 lakh has been allotted for starting the university press for publication of books and journals. The first book to be published will be on Family Management, a subject which has been introduced as a generic elective paper under CBCS at PG-level in all the universities of the state,” Verma added.
