PATNA: The Rohtas police have launched a search for a man whose 51-year-old wife is reportedly languishing in Pakistan’s Lahore central jail for more than a year.
Police began the search on a directive from the state police headquarters, which received information about the woman prisoner, Naquaya, from the Union home ministry. The prisoner had revealed to the prison authorities in Pakistan that she was a native of Koni Bigha village near Dehri-on-Sone in Rohtas district of Bihar.

Rohtas SP Satyaveer Singh said on Tuesday that all police stations in the district, which shares its borders with Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, have been put on alert and the SHOs concerned have been told to trace the woman’s husband identified only by his first name Dhaman. The SP said the woman is in Lahore central jail since October 28, 2018.
“We have also decided to seek the help of social media to trace the jailed woman’s husband and shared details about her. The picture of the prisoner has also been uploaded. The Cyber Senani Group of the district is already on the job,” the SP told this newspaper over phone.
A senior IPS officer posted at the police headquarters said the Union home ministry is making all out efforts to get the woman released from Lahore jail once her nationality and native place is ascertained. “Under what circumstances she reached Pakistan from India is subject to investigation,” he said.
The 4’5” tall woman is stated to be hale and hearty. She is of fair complexion and speaks Hindi. “The information collected about the jailed woman’s family will be sent to the Indian embassy in Pakistan through the external affairs ministry,” the officer added.
“We have no more details on her and her family. If her house is not traced in Rohtas district as mentioned in the letter issued from the Union home ministry, the relevant information will be shared with the SPs of all the districts across the state,” the officer said seeking anonymity.
