Anti-CAA stir: One more succumbs to gunshot injury in Firozabad, UP toll rises to 20

A boy in his early 20s who was admitted to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday, after he was shot in the stomach during anti-CAA protests in Firozabad on Friday, succumbed to his injuries on Monday night, taking the toll in the state to 20 now.

AGRA: A boy in his early 20s who was admitted to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday, after he was shot in the stomach during anti-CAA protests in Firozabad on Friday, succumbed to his injuries on Monday night, taking the toll in the state to 20 now.
The victim, identified as Mukim, was a resident of Tadwali Bagiya Gully number six under Ramgarh police jurisdiction.
He was the eldest among seven siblings and use to work at a bangle factory to support his family.
Speaking with TOI, Mohammad Akram, the local municipal councillor, said, “He was shot in the stomach while he was returning home. He was rushed to a private hospital in Agra on Friday, but was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Saturday after his condition worsened. He breathed his last on Monday night.”
“While being ferried to hospital, Mukim told us that he was alerted about the violence in Rasoolpur and Dakshin police jurisdictions, after which he decided to leave his factory for home on Friday. But he was caught in the scuffle between a violent mob and police force near Rajputana Tilla mohalla on Friday afternoon,” Akram claimed.
Azim Bhai, former Samajwadi Party MLA, said, “Mukim along with his father Moveen was running the family of nine members from their earnings as daily wage workers at the glass and bangle factory.
Firozabad district magistrate Chandra Vijay Singh said, “We have yet not received any information about the fourth casualty of the Friday violence. Though the situation in the district is peaceful and normal life is back on track.”
Firozabad SP Sachindra Patel and SP (city) Prabal Pratap Singh could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
In the past one week, UP has witnessed violent protests in several parts, in which 20 people died. These included five in Meerut, four in Firozabad, three in Kanpur, two each in Sambhal and Bijnor, and one each in Rampur, Muzaffarnagar, Varanasi and Lucknow.
