AYODHYA: A drug ring was busted around Faizabad Cantonment on Friday, exposing easy access of peddlers to the fortified area and raising concern about soldiers consuming cannabis. The gang members were nabbed in a joint operation by Ayodhya police and Military Intelligence (MI). Soldiers who bought cannabis from the peddlers are being identified for disciplinary action.
The Faizabad Cantonment houses several units and battalions of the Army and this is the first time, drug peddlers were found to have breached Cantonment security.

Talking to TOI, Ayodhya SSP Ashish Tiwari said, “We reacted swiftly to a tip-off from the MI and, in a joint operation, arrested two gang members from Sadar Bazaar area in the Cantonment. At least 2kg of cannabis was seized from the duo, Sandeep Yadav and Rohit Chaudhary. They have admitted to supplying cannabis to soldiers and have been booked under the NDPS Act.”
A top source in the Cantonment said, “We are identifying soldiers who bought cannabis from the peddlers and disciplinary action will be taken against them.”
