AGRA:
Firozabad superintendent of police (SP) on Saturday formed a special investigation team (
SIT) to investigate the December 20 anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (
CAA) protests that turned violent where six persons were killed. The team would be led by SP rural Rajesh Kumar, who would probe all the FIRs lodged in cases of arson, stone-pelting and deaths.
Sachindra Patel, SP, Firozabad said, “The SIT will thoroughly probe all the matter associated with the December 20 violence.
We are also appealing to the public to come forward and share evidence so that the guilty could be arrested and charged.”
He added, “So far, 14 men have been arrested and all were nabbed during the violence. Police have not entered into anyone’s home while arresting.”
Meanwhile, relatives of the arrested men claimed that they were innocent and added that the police arrested them without any evidence.
Speaking to TOI, additional director general of police (ADG) Agra zone, Ajay Anand said, “No innocent person will be persecuted. If arrested men are found to be innocent, then no chargesheet will be filed against them.”
