KOLHAPUR: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has resumed the bus services to Karnataka on Monday morning.
The bus service came to halt Saturday midnight after the tension was reported by the police administration in the Maharashtra-Karnataka border areas.
Ajay Patil, senior depot manager, Central Bus Stand Kolhapur said, "We received the message from the police administration that everything is fine in the border areas and therefore, we can start the bus service.
Accordingly, the buses along the regular routes have departed from the CBS. The commuters faced inconvenience on Sunday. The passengers were less in number for the early morning buses, however, by afternoon the number is increased."
The tensions prevailed in the border areas after the Karnataka based organisations opposing the inclusion of areas where Marathi speaking people are large in number in Maharashtra threatened to disrupt the function organised by Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) to felicitate NCP MLA, Rajesh Patil.
After the inciting remarks by the Kannada organisations, the Shiv Sena workers in Kolhapur and nearby districts hit the streets. The protests were reported from Karad, border areas of Sangli district and Solapur district on Sunday.
In Kolhapur, the Sena workers blackened the displays of the shops written in Kannada and stop the show of a Kannada movie.
