MUZAFFARPUR: In a joint operation, district police and the SSB arrested a Maoist sub-zonal commander Vikas Rajak from his ancestral house at Rasulaganj under the Motipur police station area late on Saturday night.
The team recovered firearms and huge cache of Maoist literature from Rajak’s possesion.
Confirming his arrest, Muzaffarpur SSP Jayant Kant said that he was nabbed by a joint team led by DSP (west) Krishna Murari Prasad and SSB company commander Rituraj.
“On a tip-off that Rajak and some of his associates would assemble at Rajak’s ancestral place at Rasulaganj village to plan some Maoist activities in the region, I set up the team which cordoned the entire village before starting a combing operation. Vikas was arrested from his house, while his associates fled from the vicinity apprehending trouble. The team recovered some firearms and literature related to Maoist ideology from the house,” the SSP said.
Kant added that Rajak was made a sub-zonal commander of the organisation after his brother in-law Ram Pravesh Baitha was arrested from Motipur region in 2014. “Pravesh was arrested in a joint operation carried out by Andhra Pradesh and Bihar police on the input provided by the Intelligence Bureau of India (IB). However, Rajak managed to give a slip to the raiding team and fled from the minority hostel of Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU). Since then, Rajak went into hiding and got himself engaged to spread the tentacles of the organisation in Muzaffarpur, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Vaishali, Saran and Champarans (East and West) districts of north Bihar,” he said.
The SSP said that the Maoist was wanted in more than six cases lodged with Paru, Minapur and other police stations of the district.
