Andhra Pradesh: Crime rate goes up in Chittoor district; crime against women dips in Tirupati

Chittoor and Tirupati urban police wings which are part of the Chittoor district released the crime data pertaining the the year 2019 on Monday. The comprehensive crime data gives a clear picture that while the overall crime rate has gone up in the police sub-divisions under the jurisdiction of the Chittoor police wing, crime against women has seen a decline across the sub-divisions under the control of the Tirupati urban police wing in the year 2019.

TIRUPATI: Chittoor and Tirupati urban police wings, which are part of the Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, released the crime data of 2019 on Monday.
The comprehensive crime data gives a clear picture that while the overall crime rate has gone up in the police sub-divisions under the jurisdiction of the Chittoor police wing, crime against women has seen a decline across the sub-divisions under the control of the Tirupati urban police wing in 2019.

Speaking to reporters at the district headquarters in Chittoor on Monday, SP S Senthil Kumar outlined the novel measures launched by the district police wing to effectively prevent and tackle different kinds of crime in the district. Chittoor SP said road safety patrolling, Mahila mithra committees, 'cop on dot' and several such novel initiatives were launched by the district police wing.
Looking into the crime statistics, about 68 murders were reported in the district this year in comparison to 60 murders reported in 2018. In addition, four cases of murder for gain were reported in 2019 while two murders were reported in 2018. What was worrying more was that 58 attempts to murder cases were also reported this year against 57 reported in 2019.
Dacoity related incidents saw a decline in 2019 as only two cases were reported this year against five cases registered last year.
The house break-ins reported a sharp rise this year, as 168 cases of robberies were recorded in 2019 while it was 105 in 2018.
Rioting related incidents also went up with 57 cases registered this year against 47 cases reported last year.
Crime against women went up in Chittoor district this year with 584 cases reported, while the number of cases with women as victims were 469 last year.

Despite the numerous road safety measures put in place by the district police wing, the number of fatal road accidents went up this year. In 2019, 594 persons were killed and 1369 were injured in different road accidents. In 2018, 427 accidents were reported in which 489 deaths were reported and 973 injured.
Meanwhile, Tirupati urban SP Dr Gajarao Bhupal also released the crime data relating to the urban police wing on Monday.
According to the crime statistics released by the Tirupati urban police wing, 26 murders and 32 attempts to murder cases were reported this year.
Two hundred twenty-nine persons were killed and 716 persons were injured in 530 fatal road accidents in the district.
Two hundred and eight cases of crime against women and 37 cases of crime against children were reported in 2019.
