City schools hail CBSE’s anger-free zone initiative
PATNA: The schools in Patna have welcomed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) initiative to make schools anger-free zones. The board believes that this will improve the mental health of students and make their learning environment prosperous.
CBSE, on December 23, sent a letter to all its affiliated schools instructing them to reserve one period everyday for health and physical education.
The board suggests that students should be encouraged to involve themselves in sports activities and yoga as it will decrease anger issues.
St Karen’s Secondary School principal KK Kunjachan said the CBSE has suggested some initiatives, including smiling at each other, talking to students calmly and practising breathing exercises. “This will help the students in developing affective skills. It is a welcome step,” Kunjachan said.
Baldwin Academy principal Rajiv Ranjan Sinha appreciated the Board’s initiative and considers it beneficial for the healthy growth of students. Ranjan, who is also the city coordinator of CBSE, said, “Our aim is to talk to students calmly and listen to their problems. We hope to find out solutions to their problems by cooperating with them. Besides, the school will also be taking steps to counsel teachers and parents so that they can reach out to the students and help them in anger management.”
Principal of Litera Valley School, Sharat Kumar Singh, considers its as a noble intention of CBSE, which will help students in channelizing their energy in constructive way. “The teachers will be directed to take this initiative further by talking to students composedly. I will personally urge the teachers to make good choice of words while dealing with the students,” he said.
CB Singh, director of Dr DY Patil Pushpalata Patil International School, said they are preparing a ‘Teacher-Guardian’ scheme to make school no-anger zone. “The teachers will prepare a list of shot-tempered students and they will be managed by happy-go-luck teachers. Besides, we have already put up happy quotes and smiles across the school campus,” he said.
