You can do something right now, or you can do it right. That was the mantra Sachin Tendulkar espoused with regards to rash driving and road safety at the launch of a cricket tournament in Mumbai some days ago.
“Some 200,000 lives are being lost each year [in road accidents in India],” Tendulkar said. “We are lacking patience. Everyone wants everything right now. I always believe, you can have it right or you can have it now. And if there is an elderly person crossing the street, please stop your vehicle for them.”

Sunil Gavaskar was another legend who was present at the occasion and called out the authorities for being lax about granting drivers’ licences. “We should have zero tolerance [to rash driving],” said the first man to score 10,000 Test runs.
