TIRUPATI: A bus carrying students and teachers from Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh met with an accident near Dharwad district in Karnataka, resulting in the death of a Class 10th student in the late hours of Friday.
Anantapur SP B Satya Yesu Babu told reporters that a group of 45 students and 10 teaching staff members of the government boys high school in Kadiri left in a private bus on an excursion trip in Karnataka on January 2.

The group of students and teachers were on their way from Jog falls to Murudeshwar at around 10.30 pm on Friday night, when the speeding bus skidded off the road into a 500-feet ravine.
But for one student who succumbed to injuries in the mishap, it was a miraculous escape for the rest of the students and the teachers as the trees on the slope of the valley prevented the bus from falling into the deep gorge.
The government boys high school headmaster Rajendran first managed to break the rear windshield of the bus and brought some of the students to safety. He later informed his relatives and Anantapur police about the mishap and sought their help.
Anantapur police in turn passed on the information to their counterparts in Karnataka, who rushed to the spot and rescued all the passengers.
While two students sustained grievous injuries in the mishap, one Class 10th student identified as Baba Fakruddin succumbed to injuries. A few other students and teachers sustained minor injuries.
Karnataka police rushed the injured to the Manipal hospital in Udupi where they are undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, AP CM YS Jagan who expressed grief over the death of a 10th class student in the road mishap in Karnataka, directed Anantapur district collector Gandham Chandrudu to extend all the necessary medical and logistical support to the group of students and teachers stranded after an accident in the neighbouring state of Karnataka, and bring them back safely to their native in Anantapur district.
