BHAGALPUR: A local court on Friday awarded life imprisonment to five persons after they were found guilty in a case related to abduction, gang rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl. The court of first additional district and sessions judge Vinod Kumar Tiwary also imposed a penalty of Rs 25,000 each on the five convicts. The judgement came after nearly 13 years of the incident.

The incident happened in November 19, 2006 when the schoolgirl was kidnapped from Sultanganj police station area. A case was lodged by the girl’s parent after they found her missing in the evening. Later, her body was recovered on November 22 from a village field.
During police investigation it was found that five persons—Suren Yadav, Chandsi Yadav, Sharavan Kumar Yadav, Madan Kumar and Amarjit Yadav— were involved in kidnapping the girl and later taking turn to outrage her modesty before killing and dumping the body in a village field.
The police, after registering the case (181/2006), submitted a chargesheet in the court against the five accused under sections 376, 341, 323, 324 and 302/34 of the IPC.
“Nine witnesses deposed before the court during the sessions trial that went on for 13 years. Three persons got their statements recorded under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) that sealed the fate of the perpetrators of the heinous crime,” the APP said.
