NEW DELHI: A doctor who was treating Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad before he was arrested for being involved in the Daryaganj violence has raised an alert that Azad might suffer a cardiac arrest if he was not shifted to a hospital from Tihar Jail.
One of the doctors associated with Azad said he suffers from a rare disease that causes excess blood formation. "Regular blood tests have to be done to ensure that two key blood markers - haemoglobin and the haematocrit - aren't on the higher side," Dr Harjit Singh Bhatti said.
He added that Azad had been on regular follow-up for his condition at AIIMS and he should be allowed to visit the institute for detailed examination failing which there was a risk of serious complications, including cardiac arrest. Bhatti requested home minister Amit Shah and Delhi Police to facilitate his treatment in AIIMS. Tihar Jail authorities, however, said that he was being treated by senior doctors at the jail hospital.
