Centres of learning won’t be allowed to become “addas” of politics, says HRD Minister

While replying about the protests against the amended Citizenship Act across university campuses, the Minister of Human Resource Development Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, on Monday, January 6, said that universities are the centres of learning and will not be allowed to turn into “addas” of politics.

Accusing the opposition parties of trying to turn the universities into hotbeds of politics, the Union Minister said, “Universities are centres of learning where the country’s future is in the making. We cannot let them become addas of politics.”

He further said that the new legislation approved by the Parliament aims to grant citizenship to religious minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who had taken refuge in India fleeing religious persecution there and there is nothing wrong in it.
