PATNA: In a daring act, two motorbike-borne youths looted Rs2.5 lakh from an agent of Barauni dairy on the busy Annie Besant Road under Pirbahore police station area in the state capital on Monday. It was the fourth case of loot in Patna district in the last 48 hours.
Police said two youths riding a motorbike intercepted one Abhishek Kumar on the Annie Besant Road around 1.30pm and looted a bag containing the cash from him at pistol point.
The robbers, who had covered their faces with mufflers, also fired a shot in the air to terrorize the local businessmen and the passersby.
The criminals, who were in the age group of 20-25 years, however, fled the spot, leaving the victim in a state of shock. Police said Abhishek had collected the money from different counters of milk parlours and was on way to Bhootnath Road in Patna City subdivision to deposit the money in the bank account of the dairy.
Pirbahore police station SHO Rizwan Ahmad Khan said efforts were on to ascertain the identity of the robbers with the help of the CCTV footages in the area. Nobody was injured in the firing incident, he added.
DSP (Town) Suresh Prasad, however, claimed that police have collected some clues about the robbers. “We will crack the case at the earliest,” he said, adding that raids were on to nab the criminals involved in the crime. A case was lodged with the Pirbahore police station on the victim’s statement.
Locals told the police that the robbery came to light only when the victim raised an alarm. “The robbers dashed against the victim’s motorbike from behind on the road. As a result, he fell on the ground. We thought that the victim was hit from behind in an accident,” a police officer quoted a local shopkeeper as saying.

Earlier on Sunday, armed criminals looted Rs. 6.05 lakh in three separate incidents from areas falling under Kadamkuan, Digha and Naubatpur police stations in Patna district.
Patna SSP Upendra Kumar Sharma, who assumed charge on Thursday, had categorically told the police officers to pull up their socks failing which stern disciplinary action would be taken against them.
Sharma held a meeting with the SHOs and gave tips on how to control crime. Sharma, who had earlier served as City SP in Patna, visited different police stations soon after he assumed charge as SSP. He has replaced Garima Malik, who has been promoted to the rank of DIG and posted in the CID at the headquarters.
