    Former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi to file case against police in anti-CAA protest firing

    Former Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi said that he will file civil and criminal case against police in connection with five persons killed during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest.

    Gogoi also attacked BJP led government for not been able to hold India vs Sri Lanka 1st T20 match.

    Guwahati: Former Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi said that he will file civil and criminal case against police in connection with five persons killed during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Gogoi on Monday said that the government is yet to announce compensation for those killed. “On Sunday I visited the house of Dipanjal Das, their family members said that people from different political parties visited us except BJP, though we supported BJP.” During the violent anti CAA protest last month four people were killed in police firing while one died in CAA related violence. Gogoi said, “People were fired bullets on face. This whole incident needs to be inquired.”
    The state government has announced inquiry in two cases. Additional district magistrate Kamrup, Metropolitan district Guwahati, Manoj Kumar Sikaria will inquire regarding the death of Abdul Alim who succumbed to his injuries last month during the incident of firing that took place on December 12 at Lalunggaon in Guwahati.

    Bipul Kumar Das, additional district magistrate Kamrup metropolitan district Guwahati will inquire about the death of Dipanjal Das who died in Guwahati medical college and hospital due to sustained bullet injury in Lachitnagar in Guwahati. The state government order stated to submit his findings within 15 days on receipt of this order positively along with all relevant and required documents/reports etc for onward submission to the National Human Right Commission (NHRC)/Assam Human Right Commission (AHRC).

    Gogoi also attacked BJP led government for not been able to hold India vs Sri Lanka 1st T20 match. On Sunday steam iron, hair-dryer, vacuum dryer and Super Sopper were used in Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati to dry the patches in the pitch after two spell of shower. Gogoi said, “Forget about building new stadium, Assam government cannot maintain a pitch, Assam’s respect is hurt. People in Assam Cricket Association (ACA) must apologize to the people of Assam. There must be an inquiry and ACA authorities must resign.” He said, “Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal talks about making Assam sport’s capital of India however he has failed to add a single stadium in the state.” ACA secretary, Devajit Saikia said that international match was abandoned due to heavy rain.

    Three time chief minister, Gogoi said if BJP led government hold assembly election within three months from now, they will not get more than 25 seats. “BJP leaders has announced it will win not less than 100 seats out of 126 assembly seats in 2021 assembly polls.” Meanwhile Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangh has extended their support to the Bharat bandh called on January 8 called by the Trade unions and different forums demanding repealing of Citizenship CAA, privatization of public sector undertakings and several other demands of the forums.

    ACMS General secretary Rupesh Goala on Monday said that all the factories and tea gardens of the state would observe cease work on January 8 as mark of support to the bandh. He also appealed the tea garden workers to take out procession against the CAA in each tea gardens of the state and to organize condolence meeting for those killed during the anti-CAA agitation in Assam across all the tea gardens.
