Bawarchi did not have title credits. Amitabh Bachchan introduced the cast

Su-swagatam, khushamadid. Roopam Chitra aapki sewa mein pesh karta apna naya chitra Bawarchi. If you have watched Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Bawarchi (1972), you will notice this is how the film begins. Amitabh Bachchan, as the narrator, introduced the star cast of the film to us in his silky voice. Much like in a play.

Had it not been for the narrator, Amitabh Bachchan, we probably would not have known about the team associated with the film. For Mukherjee’s film did not have any title credits, be it at the beginning or at the end. Surprised? Well, we were too. This interesting fact finds a place in this week’s Tuesday Trivia.

Curtain opens and we see a house that Big B refers to as Shanti Niwas. But "naam pe mat jaayiye" because it is exactly opposite to it. The irony, right?

"Is ghar ke maalik hain ek retired postmaster. Apni swargwasi patni ke naam par unhone makaan ka naam rakha tha Shanti Niwas."

Bachchan then begins introducing the family members aka the star cast to the audience.

So unconventional, right?

Years later, Bawarchi was recreated as Hero No 1 in 1997. The remake, which starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in the lead, was directed by David Dhawan.

However, Hero No 1 did not adhere to this pattern of introducing the cast like Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Bawarchi did.

Time to watch Bawarchi (again) right?
