MEERUT: Hours after a Delhi court issued death warrants against the four convicts in the brutal rape-cum-murder of a paramedic student, Nirbhaya, and set the date for January 22, third generation hangman from Meerut, Pawan Jallad, said on Tuesday that he was ready to carry out the executions.
“As of now, I have not received any official word from Tihar jail administration about carrying out the executions.
But, I am ready for it. A few days ago, I was asked by Tihar to remain on standby for the executions in Nirbhaya case. Being a father, I will be satisfied if I get to hang those rapists,” Pawan told media outside his home in Meerut.
The execution will be carried out on January 22, at 7am in Tihar jail. The court said the convicts can use their legal remedies within 14 days.

UP’s director general (prison administration and reform services), who had in December confirmed Tihar jail administration's correspondence for hangman, said that Tihar administration has not sent any fresh correspondence to UP jail authorities on requisition of hangman.
As the preparations of hanging kick-starts, all eyes are on UP which would be sending one of its hangman for the job. UP jail authorities have two hangmen, one in Meerut and the other in Lucknow, on retainership basis. Tihar administration had recently written to UP jail administration requesting to keep hangman on standby and their services would be sought as per requisition.

Hired by UP Directorate of Prisons in 2013, Pawan is still itching for his “first kill”. He missed an “opportunity” four years ago when high court commuted Surinder Koli’s death sentence to life imprisonment in the Nithari case. “For seven days, I strenuously prepared for the execution. But he got away,” Pawan had said.
Pawan is hopeful this time.
Six people were convicted for brutally raping and murdering the 23-year-old student in a moving bus while she was on her way back home on December 16, 2012 in Delhi. She died from her injuries. Of the six people convicted in the case, one was a minor and was sent to a rehabilitation centre. Another, Ram Singh, committed suicide in the Tihar jail.
