BUXAR/PATNA: A week after the death of two life convicts serving life term in Buxar Central Jail under mysterious circumstances, a high-level team of the prison directorate visited the jail to inquire into the incident.
Sources said that a team of officials led by deputy director (prison) Prashant Kumar Srivastava visited the jail on Tuesday and inquired about the cause of death of the two inmates.
One of the two deceased, Suresh Kumhar (30), a resident of Nainijore village in Buxar district had died during treatment at Buxar sadar hospital. Another inmate Master Bind (80) was declared brought dead by the doctors after being referred from the jail hospital on January 1.
The members of the probe team talked to the prisoners, warders and other staff of the jail and collected information about Suresh and Master Bind. The probe team met the doctor and para-medical staff of the hospital who had attended to Suresh before his death.
A senior jail official said the probe team also discussed the issue pertaining to the inmate’s death with the doctors posted in the prison hospital. The documents related to the treatment of the prisoners were provided to the visiting team before it left for the prison directorate. "The probe into the deaths has been ordered by IG, prison directorate and correctional services, Mithilesh Mishra. We will submit the report to him in a day or two,” said a member of the team.
He, however, refused to share the findings of the investigation on the plea that the report is confidential and he was not authorized to talk to the media. Suresh had complained of severe pain in stomach, chest and also acute ikkheadache. His father and two brothers, who were also lodged in the same jail had claimed that Suresh had no serious ailment.
The relatives told the jail warden that Suresh had caught cold. Even the medical officer said that Suresh was being treated for symptoms of cold.
Suresh along with his father and two brothers was serving life term in a murder case lodged with the Brahpur police station in 2008. The four were convicted for killing their neighbour Kuber Tiwari on March 20, 2008.
