PATNA: The East Central Railway (ECR) has approved the proposal of Danapur division to increase the speed limit of all mail and express trains up to 130 kmph on the Jhajha-Patna Junction-Pt Deendayal Upadhaya Junction mainline section from April 30. The Railway Board has given its nod to the proposal. At present all mail and express trains, including Rajdhani Express, are running at the speed limit of 110 kmph between Jhajha and Pt Deendayal Upadhaya Junction route.
ECR’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Rajesh Kumar told this newspaper on Wednesday that railways is prepared to enhance the speed limit of trains up to 130 kmph on this particular route after successful completion of advanced signalling work.
“Railways has also carried out track renewal work required to increase the speed limit from 110 kmph to 130 kmph. Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches are capable of running at the maximum speed limit of 130 kmph,” he said.
Kumar said track renewal work on the Jhajha-Patna — Pt Deendayal Upadhaya Junction route was significant as it replaced the 52kg tracks by those of 60kg with the length of each track to be about 130 metres. “It has already been declared as ‘Rajdhani Route’ by the Railway Board,” he said.
The CPRO said an increase in the speed limit is likely to reduce the journey hours at least by 30 minutes on the Patna-Delhi route in particular. “It would also help railways clear huge traffic rush on the Jhajha-Patna-Pt Deendayal Upadhaya Junction route. The division is presently coping with the operational needs of about 280 pairs of passenger trains. Thus, an increase in the speed limit up to 130 kmph will prove to be a boon for passengers as well,” he said.
Besides, railways has also increased the speed limit from 50 kmph to 100 kmph on Dauram Madhepura-Murliganj section under Samastipur division and from 60 kmph to 100 kmph on the Banmankhi-Purnia section followed by Dhanbad-Gaya-Pt Deendayal Upadhaya Junction from 110 kmph to 120 kmph, on Barauni-Katihar route from 70 kmph to 100 kmph, on Mohiuddinnagar-Bachwara route from 75 kmph to 90 kmph, on Raxaul-Chauradano route from 50 kmph to 80 kmph and Kursela-Karagola route from 70 kmph to 100 kmphccix:command value="252,1"/>According to sources, railways has already increased the speed limit up to 130 kmph from Pt Deendayal Upadhaya Junction- Allahabad-Kanpur onwards to New Delhi. Increase in the speed limit has thus become a must for railways to maintain a uniform speed limit of 130 kmph right from Howrah to Delhi via Patna, Pt Deendayal Upadhaya Junction, Allahabad and Kanpur for the fast movement of mail and express trains.
