GAYA: About 1,700 teaching and non-teaching staff of Magadh University (MU) headquarters, 19 constituent and one deficit grant minority college will be getting their salary for the month of January in the revised pay scale as per the recommendations of the Seventh Pay commission.
Though eligible for the revised scale from January 2016, the scale was not being paid to more than 20,000 teaching and non-teaching employees of the universities in the state including MU.
On an average, each employee is estimated to get a hike of around 20% in gross emoluments. Sources said that the salary difference accruing to employees for January 2016 to December 2019 will be paid later.
MU registrar Prof Sidnath Prasad Deen said that he discussed the issue of revised pay scale with senior officials of the education department on Tuesday.
“Rekha Singh, director of higher education, will hold a meeting in the third week of this month to review the financial requirements of the university in view of the implementation of the new pay scale. After the review meet, the payment-related formalities will be completed well in time to ensure disbursement of January’s salary in the enhanced scale,” the registrar said.
On the issue of students union election, the registrar said that a committee has been constituted to work out the modalities of the union elections.
Asked whether the office bearers of the central union of the university would be directly elected or college-level representatives would elect the central union office bearers, the registrar said a final decision on the election mode would be taken after considering the report of the committee constituted for the purpose. “The committee is expected to submit its report within a week,” the registrar said.

He added that recommendation would be made to the state government for grant or extension of affiliation to colleges located in five districts of Magadh division. Reminded about the legal provision regarding the university senate making the recommendation, the registrar said that once approved by the syndicate, the recommendations would be forwarded to the state government in anticipation of the senate’s approval.
The annual meet of the university senate is likely to be held in February to approve the university budget and other academic and administrative issues placed before the apex body.
